About Me
Howdy! Most know me as Shay. I am currently a DevOps Engineer, previously a Linux Administrator, with a focus on Kubernetes, configuration management, IaC and platform engineering.
I am most skilled in: Kubernetes, Configuration Management, Infrastructure as Code and Linux Administration.
Experience
Document Mangement Platform
Starting at NetDocuments I took on the task of automating deployments for engineering teams so they could focus on developing code. Over the years my role has evolved and I now also develop IaC for seamless scaling of private and public resources. Leveraging configuration management allows us keep those systems compliant and easily deployable anywhere. In recent years, I have helped to build a platform for our engineering staff to utilize in order to be more self-suffcient while remaining focused on quality and security.
Enterprise Administration and Hosting
Linux administration was my first role in the tech world. I started at the entry level position and quickly learned the skills necessary to support enterprise scale customers due to my fascination with automation and configuration management. I worked mainly within the private cloud space, but near the end of my time at Rackspace I was able to learn more about public cloud and helping customers with migrations.
We All Start Somewhere
While in school, I advanced from an entry level position to a store management position. I maintained daily store operations such as: payroll and scheduling, inventory management, monetary duties and logistics of inventory shipments. Analyzed profit & loss reports to assist with improving local store profits which lead to district recognition.
Helping Others Follow Their Passion
While pursuing a Master’s degree, I was also working in the department to help foster a love of Physics for new students. I assisted in the design of physics curriculum and ran labs for the physics department. I also helped teach physics to entry level students in the evenings.

Computational Physics
During my time in graduate school, I learned the importance of time. Not all experimentation can be funded, so how can I prove my case in order to get my proposed project funded? Let’s model it! Here started my fascination with automation and using technology to solve problems.

"The universe is a pretty big place. If it's just us, seems like an awful waste of space." - Carl Sagan
I intended to get my degree and share my passion for learning. Striving to understand things at a fundamental level helped me to develop critical thinking skills and problem solve when the initial answer may not be clear. If you have a small piece of the puzzle, we might be able to derive the rest.
